The first Indian settlers arrived in Singapore with Sir Stamford Raffles as assistants and soldiers back in 1819, with many more joining them in the years to come. The focal point of this Indian community of Singapore is Little India. As you enter this area, you face an attack on the senses. The strong scent of spices and jasmine garlands, followed by the abundance of colourful silk saris, silverware, wood carvings and much more, offered at every turn. Mixed in among the shops are plenty of opportunities to sample Indian cooking and of course numerous rooming options. | |
Little India is also a show of tolerance, with churches, mosques, temples and more existing peacefully side by side. Take a walk through little India and discover Singapore! |
