China Town

Singapore's Chinatown evolved around 1821 as the first junkets started arriving from Xiamen. While Singapore overall is mainly Chinese these days, this original enclave still maintains some additional original charm.

The small streets south of cross street thus retain plenty of original appeal, and some of the more interesting entertainment venues around here are also set in original though restored shop houses. An example would be Oosters. In fact, Chinatown offers plenty of watering holes as well as a rather wide assortment of foods, from the Original Indochine Restaurant to Barrio Chino and even Ricciotti Italian Deli & Pastry. The nightlife scene is equally varied, with everything from the House of Rock to The club by Aphrodisiac. Yet, it is all set in true Chinatown surroundings, with original signs and small streets. It is an area that should be walked and taken in, daytime as well as night-time.
